We have booked Middlesbrough Cycle Circuit (Prissick) every Tuesday evening throughout the winter for exclusive use by Stockton Wheelers members from 7pm - 9pm.
The initial plans for the sessions are as follows, however this will be subject to review depending on demand:
7pm to 8pm social session
The first hour will be open to any senior member, and any youth members who are in coaching groups A, B or C (10.45 session) . This restriction is needed for safety reasons due to the potential large numbers of riders. Riders in these groups have shown the ability to ride safely under these conditions. The sessions will not be coached sessions for seniors, although Jayne Woods is hoping to include some Ladies coaching sessions at some point. For youth riders the sessions will not follow the same structure as the Saturday morning coaching sessions but there will be at least one coach present working with riders. The intention is for youth riders to use the session to build stamina and speed. Senior members can use this hour as a warm-up for faster riding in the second hour, to practice group riding skills, or for newer riders to increase their stamina levels with the company of other members.
8pm to 9pm
Chain Gang open to senior riders who have taken part in the clubs organised rides, and youth riders aged 12+ who have been signed off as capable by the club coaches with 2 ability groups if needed, as all riders participating in this session should have the skills and knowledge to communicate when passing the other group etc.
The club Wattbikes will be available on selected weeks to allow riders to monitor their progress.
In poor weather we may be able to use rollers/turbotrainers and the Wattbikes to allow some training in the clubhouse depending on numbers.
Hot and cold drinks will be available in the clubhouse and it is hoped that these evenings will help to develop the social side of the club, allowing opportunities for the different sections of the club to mix more than they do at present.
The sessions would cost £1.50 per rider for each hour that they participate and it is hoped that this income, along with money from refreshments will be enough to cover the costs of hiring the venue. All riders will be required to report to the clubhouse to sign in before they go onto the track.
Although the circuit has street lighting it is not particularly bright. Please ensure you have lights on your bikes, but nothing that is so bright that it will dazzle other riders.
As with any event, people are needed to assist with the running of these sessions. For each session we will need:
If anyone is willing to assist in any of these roles, not necessarily every week, but for some, please let us know.
The first session will take place this Tuesday, 1st October.
I hope to see many of you there.
