Discover the Youth Racing page at Stockton Wheelers Cycling Club, where young cyclists can explore competitive opportunities in the world of racing. Our youth racing program is designed to help riders develop their skills, gain experience, and compete in a supportive and encouraging environment. Learn about upcoming races, training sessions, and how we nurture young talent. Whether new to racing or looking to take your skills to the next level, join us to grow and compete with Stockton Wheelers. YOUTH RACING Our youth section is an exciting, happy and inclusive place where all children can have fun riding their bike and learn new skills. Our experienced British Cycling trained coaches offer sessions that improve technique and give children plenty of time in a "traffic free" environment to improve their techniques and meet other children who love to ride their bikes. SATURDAY MORNING COACHING AT MIDDLESBROUGH SPORTS VILLAGE BEGINNERS GROUP We have a beginners group for children who are relatively new to cycling at 9 45 every Saturday morning. Any children are welcome to join us (and they can even have their first session free to try it out). RACING GROUP We also have a racing group for children who want to learn advanced skills that can take them into your racing (if they wish). Coaches decide which children would be best suited to this group. From September to January we offer either off-road or on-road skills. From February to August we offer road cycling sessions only. Many of our children progress to racing for our team in closed road races, time trials or cyclo-cross. ADDITIONAL SESSIONS We also offer velodrome training for any of our racing group who wish to do this with British Cycling qualified coaches. These sessions take place on Friday evenings. GROUP RIDES Periodically our coaches offer social rides in the local area for the group to get together and enjoy riding their bikes in different scenarios. EVENTS & OTHER INFORMATION We also offer Christmas Parties, awards, sponsored events, halloween events, a tuck shop, a swap shop and a chance to meet new people who love cycling just as much as you do! If your child becomes a member, they can rent club shirts. If they join our racing group and eventually become part of our racing team, we welcome them to the team with a club hoody. Stockton Wheelers is a fun place to be whether you just want to make new friends or have fun on your bike or take your cycling into races. Everyone is welcome!

Offering a range of events for cyclists of all levels, we provide a supportive and challenging environment to improve speed, technique, and endurance. Learn about upcoming time trials, entry requirements, and tips to enhance your performance. Join us and test your limits on the clock with Stockton Wheelers Cycling Club. TIME TRIALLING Time trialling in the UK is a popular cycling sport where riders compete solo against the clock. Unlike typical races, riders start individually, aiming to complete a course as quickly as possible. Standard distances include 10, 25, 50, and 100 miles, with events like 12-hour and 24-hour trials as more extreme challenges. Key Aspects of Time Trialling: Types: Solo, team, and hill climb time trials. Courses: Routes range from flat roads to hilly climbs and are often on open roads, requiring awareness of traffic. Equipment: Specialized bikes, road bikes, aero helmets, and form-fitting clothing help reduce drag and increase speed. Governing Bodies: Cycling Time Trials (CTT) oversees most events, setting rules and standards for competitions. Getting Started Riders can find events through local clubs or the CTT website . Beginners are advised to start with shorter distances, invest in basic aerodynamic gear, and focus on pacing to maintain high speeds. For a friendly introduction, come and try a SWCC Time Trial on a Thursday night, where new riders are always welcome. Time trialling offers a supportive community and a unique way to test endurance and speed across the UK’s scenic roads.
